Defoamers
Additives for reducing foaming in drilling and completion fluids
Control foam and air entrainment while maintaining environmental acceptability.
The Defoam Extreme™ specialized brine-base system defoamer is a silicone-based liquid that can readily and easily be added to water-based fluids or brine to control or prevent foaming in situations when extreme foaming is a concern. It is ideal when using surfactants, such as Flow-Bak™ surface tension reducer, or using lubricants.
The defoamer is compatible with brine systems and reservoir drill-in fluids as well as fluid-losscontrol pills. The Defoam Extreme defoamer has minimal impact on fluid rheology and performs in both monovalent and divalent brines. Laboratory testing is recommended to evaluate performance for specific conditions and in highdensity brine applications.
When foam is expected, pretreat the system with 0.02% to 0.05% Defoam Extreme defoamer by volume. To control foaming, the defoamer can be directly added over the pits; do not add through a mixing hopper.
Perform maintenance treatments if foam reappears while circulating and after extended storage times.
Bioassay information is available on request. Handle as an industrial chemical, wear protective equipment, and observe the precautions described in the SDS.
Defoam Extreme defoamer is packaged in 55-galUS [208-L] drums or 5-galUS [19-L] cans. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flames.
