Matthew Miner, Oil and Gas Technology and Automation Specialist, brings a unique blend of data-driven strategy, analytical expertise, and a relentless drive for operational excellence to his work at SLB.

Matthew’s journey began on the basketball court, playing Division II basketball at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, where he earned both his Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Finance) and an MBA in Operations Management & Data Analysis. His early career included coaching positions at his alma mater, the Phoenix Suns, and Siena University. Merging his passion for sports and analytics, he went on to found a sports analytics company, leveraging machine learning and computer vision to track player movements—helping over 70 Division I programs, two National Champions, and USA Basketball turn complex data into game-winning insights.

Today, Matthew applies this analytical rigor as Integrated Sensor Intelligence Manager at SLB. He leads large-scale, data-focused programs to drive operational performance across the oil and gas sector. After pioneering innovative tank level monitoring (TLM) processes for Permian Basin customers—delivering real-time, actionable visibility into chemical inventories—Matthew now oversees the operation of more than 11,000 remote sensors across North America.

"We’ve developed a leading-edge digital monitoring and analytics service,” Matthew explains, “that not only provides real-time data visibility, but also enhances continuous injection performance, drives efficiency, and proactively protects assets for our customers across North America."

Thanks to this advanced sensor program, 99% of SLB-monitored tanks in the Permian Basin now maintain optimized inventory management—a major leap in delivery efficiency, supply chain planning, and customer assurance. By enabling remote adjustment of injection rates and replacing manual inventories with live data, SLB’s TLM program has reduced operational risk, improved safety, and changed the way assets are monitored: personnel can monitor systems remotely around the clock, all while maintaining precise chemical injection targets.

"We’ve witnessed outstanding impacts for our operators—over 90% continual on-target injection, substantial cost savings by eliminating over-injection, and a greater level of trust with our customers," Matthew says.
