Horizontal multistage centrifugal pumps provide a cost-effective, operationally efficient and safe alternative to reciprocating, vertical turbine can and axial split case pumps that have historically been used in high-pressure applications. Working in the Haynesville Shale in 2006, MarkWest Energy Partners, L.P., selected a 23-stage REDA HPS horizontal multistage surface pump for handling pipeline pressures at its plant in Carthage, TX. Installed in 2006, the REDA HPS pump system continues to pump natural gas liquids into the outgoing pipeline, flowing 13,500 barrels per day. In 2009 a second plant came online with two REDA HPS pump systems in series, delivering 5,300 barrels per day. The pumps have been in continuous operation since they were installed at the two plants without any downtime, aside from regularly scheduled oil changes. MarkWest now uses these pumps for all its natural gas liquid pipeline, ethane pipeline and amine circulation operations.
