Cuttings samples show the SCREEN PULSE fluid and cuttings separator reduced OOC in the 8.5-in and 12.25-in sections by up to 26% over a 13-day period.
Cuttings samples show the SCREEN PULSE fluid and cuttings separator reduced OOC in the 8.5-in and 12.25-in sections by up to 26% over a 13-day period. By optimizing separation efficiency, the operator reduced OOC by an average of 17.9% compared with when the separator was not in use, helping the operator save on average USD 2,797/d in drilling fluid costs while drilling the two sections.
Location
North Sea, Europe, Offshore
Background
A North Sea operator needed to minimize waste, costs, and HSE risk while drilling multiple well sections with OBM. M-I SWACO, a Schlumberger company, recommended installing the SCREEN PULSE fluid and cuttings separator to improve the fluid recovery of the operator’s existing VSM-300 shakers. The innovative separator stripped the cuttings of free fluid, reducing oil on cuttings (OOC) by up to 26% compared with the shakers alone.
