This paper explores the application of AI to enhance the efficiency of waterflooding operations. AI can be game changing, but it relies on well-designed applications that consider many factors, not necessarily technical, to generate and sustain maximum value. The paper documents the approach and outcomes experienced during the piloting of an AI based solution that will benefit others who desire to make this transformation to AI enabled waterflood management. In particular, the paper highlights how AI applications have been integrated into Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) existing waterflooding management procedures to drive operational and economic efficiency in the Wara reservoir of the Greater Burgan oilfield.
