Enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) represent a promising avenue for sustainable energy production. However, the extreme temperatures pose an implementation and optimization challenge for EGS projects. Success depends on fracture propagation, proppant placement, and establishing circulation at sufficient rates to generate energy economically and efficiently. In this paper we review different aspects across different stages of the EGS life cycle and make some recommendations for data collection, rock characterization, and laboratory testing to understand material behavior, numerical modeling, etc.
