Petromod features
Petromod 2026.1 features
Petromod 2026.1 and Petromod XD 2026.1 deliver meaningful improvements, helping geoscientists work faster, smarter, and with greater confidence throughout the basin modeling process.
Petromod 2026.1 release announcementModernized user experience
The new simulator interface introduces a clean, intuitive design with smart navigation of settings, making complex workflows easier to configure and manage. Access to SLB Help documentation is now integrated directly within Delfi digital platform, ensuring faster support and smoother onboarding. In addition, the unified kinetics editor brings components and kinetics together into a single, streamlined application. Recent usability enhancements across Petromod software applications improve the overall user experience.
Enhanced visualization and workflows
This release improves multi-model visualization and export, to support more consistent data analysis. Users can now benefit from 3D‑to‑2D fault extraction in Viewer 3D, enhanced flash overlay outputs, and an improved color scale in PetroFlash, all designed to increase clarity and efficiency in interpretation workflows.
Significant performance improvements
Petromod 2026.1 delivers major speed and efficiency gains across key engines. Flowpath simulations run up to 35% faster, while IP express simulations are four times faster and six times more memory‑efficient, with added support for .sgy and .zgy file formats.
Extensibility and cloud capabilities
On‑demand basin simulation is now available for Linux users, enabling efficient, cloud‑based simulations while supporting on‑premise environments and hybrid workflows. Petromod software data can be accessed and edited by Python.
Stronger risk analysis
Updates to PetroRisk now provide comprehensive risk data outputs, supporting more robust uncertainty analysis and decision‑making.

Model of CO2 dissolved in water and transport with the waterflow
Advection modeling of the CO2 dissolved in water. Understand and predict the transport and distribution of CO2. This is the first commercial release in Petromod software of this workflow. (Data Courtesy of Geoscience Australia)
CO2 migration modeling using Darcy flow and precipitation of CO2 in carbonates
Precipitation of CO2 in carbonates. Including precipitation of CO2 in carbonates in CO2 storage modeling enhances our understanding of natural carbon sequestration processes. This is the first commercial release in Petromod software including this workflow. - (Data Courtesy of NPD)
Petromod 2024.3 features
Petromod 2024.3 introduces Delfi™ On-Demand Reservoir Simulation (ODRS), allowing users to connect their local Petromod software installation to the Delfi High-Performance Computing (HPC) digital platform for powerful, cloud-based simulations. This feature requires a Delfi ODRS subscription and enables users to build 1D, 2D, and 3D models locally with the Petromod Core Builder license, then submit simulations to the Delfi digital platform HPC cluster. This integration provides significant benefits, including:
- Scalability for large and complex models.
- Resource optimization by eliminating reliance on local hardware.
- Increased efficiency through on-demand simulations.
This new functionality enhances basin modeling workflows by combining local flexibility with the Delfi digital platform HPC’s computational power, enabling faster and more cost-effective simulations. Additionally, many bugs have been fixed. To find out more, check the Petromod 2024.3 release notes.
Petromod 2024.2
- The Phase Editor has been redesigned for improved user interaction, merging the water, liquid, vapor, and ice tabs into a single main tab.
- Dissolution options have been streamlined, and new commands like reload, undo, and redo have been added.
- A new special option, Oprxcall 1, reduces flowpath migration algorithm calls to one per event, potentially decreasing simulation time by up to 30%.
- Four new overlays provide enhanced insights into fluid phase interactions
- Solubility in water
- Change in mass in water
- Dissolution mass
- Exsolution mass
- Multiple bug fixes

Petromod 2023
Petromod 2023.1
Petromod 2023.1 release announcement
PetroMod 2023 combines a state-of-the-art user interface with high simulation performance enabling you to perform sophisticated analyses of the dynamic temperature, pressure, and migration history of complex geological systems in a fast, and intuitive process-focused workflow.
Key features and enhancements
IP Express
This new tool has been created based on the IP Tester. In IP Express, the invasion percolation algorithm has been decoupled from the pressure/temperature (P/T) simulator to be run within 3D seismic volumes of up to 2 billion cells size. This application was primarily created for carbon storage site assessment but can be also used for hydrocarbon migration testing. The tool has been designed to be used with minimum data requirements, i.e., one seismic cube, but additional seismic cubes can be included in the simulation if available. You need a 3D advanced migration license to run IP Express.
Advection (beta version)
To expand the simulator capabilities, of modelling CO2 storage in saline aquifers, the existing diffusion equation has been extended to include advection.
