The Cameron carbon storage wellhead system is part of our Sequestri™ carbon storage solutions portfolio. It improves performance by delivering significantly higher barrier integrity and life cycle durability under the demanding conditions of CO2 injection compared with traditional oil and gas (O&G) wellhead systems.

Its sealing system is engineered to maintain full functionality across extreme temperature swings, from –112 to 250 degF [–80 to 121 degC], preventing loss of integrity during Joule-Thomson cooling events that commonly compromise standard wellhead sealing. The nonmetallic seals eliminate galling, corrosion, and degradation in CO2 streams, resulting in more consistent long-term sealing performance and fewer interventions.

Compact, modular architecture reduces installation complexity, improves uptime, and supports seamless integration of fiber-optic lines (for monitoring pressure, temperature, and wellbore movement) without additional termination hardware, facilitating continuous measurement and verification aligned with Class VI* requirements. Together, this wellhead system's capabilities enhance operational efficiency, reduce NPT, minimize maintenance, and ensure superior wellbore integrity over the multidecade life cycle expected in CCS projects.

* The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines wells that are used to inject CO2 into deep rock formations as Class VI wells.

What does this system replace?

Our carbon storage wellhead system replaces traditional O&G wellheads that have been adapted—often inadequately—for CO2 injection and long-term sequestration service. Traditional wellheads are designed for hydrocarbon production, not for the extreme low-temperature, high-purity CO2 and acid-gas conditions found in CCS operations. In contrast, our built-for-purpose solution eliminates the need for

  • multiple retrofit components
  • modified O&G wellheads with insufficient low-temperature qualification
  • sealing systems requiring specialized tooling and technical expertise for installation
  • external fiber-optic termination spools that increase stack height and installation time.

In essence, it replaces a patchwork of modified O&G hardware with a single, integrated, application-specific CCS wellhead system optimized for reliability, monitoring, and long-term containment.
