Co-development between OMV and SLB led to the creation of an automated workflow, that improves data quality and streamlines offset well planning. By using DrillOps™ reporting to automate data ingestion, validation, and transfer to DrillPlan™ coherent well planning and engineering solutions, the workflow reduces manual effort, saves time, and enhances the reliability of planning data.

Improving OMV well planning efficiency through automated workflows

Enhancing well planning accuracy with automation

OMV sought to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of their development well planning by addressing challenges related to the variability and quality of operational reports. To overcome these limitations, OMV partnered with SLB in a co-development initiative aimed at creating an automated data ingestion (ADI) workflow within the DrillOps™ reporting system. The goal was to streamline data quality control and improve the usability of offset well data in the planning process.

Driving better outcomes with streamlined workflows

The implementation of the ADI workflow within DrillOps reporting has delivered significant improvements across OMV’s well planning operations. By automating the ingestion and validation of offset well data, the workflow has eliminated the need for repetitive manual tasks, that previously consumed substantial time and resources. This automation has not only accelerated the planning process but also ensured greater consistency and reliability in the data being used.

The system intelligently identifies missing or inconsistent data points and applies a ruleset derived from DrillPlan solutions to evaluate and correct these issues. This ensures that only high-quality, validated data is transferred into DrillPlan solutions, which is critical for accurate offset well analysis and subsequent planning decisions. As a result, planners now have access to a more complete and trustworthy dataset, enabling better-informed decision making and reducing the risk of errors or inefficiencies in well design.
