When I was a child, dreaming of my future job, did I think about the energy sector? Definitely not.

I imagined myself as a doctor saving lives, or a researcher revolutionizing science. But in my early days of studying chemical engineering, I quickly realized that my love for all things science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) could take me down some surprisingly meaningful paths.

So, I followed my passion as it led me to process engineering and, ultimately, refinery. I still remember someone asking me, after I graduated in 2007, “What could a girl like you do on an oil rig in the middle of the Algerian desert?”

A few years later, that’s exactly where I was: in my blue SLB coveralls, holding a safety meeting on a rig floor as the only female on site. I still smile remembering that bold young woman, and I’m proud to have stepped into the unknown for it brought me a life of innovation and impact.

My inclination toward technology may have helped me understand wireline measurements and petrophysics, but what really made a difference were the people I was surrounded by from the very beginning.

Senior operators who had the experience at their fingertips. Peers sharing in the struggle of operations and forging a path to excellence. Technical gurus proving that expertise is the pillar of our clients’ trust. And leaders helping each of us find our way forward.

You don’t always realize how important of a role your colleagues play until they surface in less expected contexts, as friends in moments of doubt. Am I on the right track? Am I prioritizing my family enough as a wife, a mother, and a daughter?

The support of my teams and mentors consistently outweighed those doubts. And now that I’m part of human resources, I’m delighted to offer a similarly valuable experience to others. To help empower our talented people to discover their own paths to influence and fulfillment.

I may not be directly saving lives as my younger self imagined, but I am part of an organization that leverages discovery, innovation, and collaboration to make life better for many.

Congratulations on 100 years of impact, my friends. And here’s to another 100 more!
