SLB and Celsius Energy Experts Recognized at Top Geothermal Industry Event

Published: 10/29/2025

Driving the news: Two SLB geothermal experts have received prestigious industry awards recognizing their impact on clean energy innovation.

Why it matters: The honors underscore SLB’s growing role in the energy transition, where geothermal and heat pump technologies are emerging as critical tools for decarbonization. By leveraging decades of subsurface expertise SLB is helping advance reliable, scalable, and low-carbon energy solutions worldwide.

Minh Pham, reservoir engineering manager at SLB’s GeothermEx™ geothermal consulting services, was awarded the Henry J. Ramey, Jr. Geothermal Reservoir Engineering Award by Geothermal Rising, the world’s largest geothermal membership organization, and is named for Stanford professor Henry J. Ramey, Jr. The award honors outstanding contributions to geothermal reservoir engineering.

Minh Pham has over 34 years of experience in geothermal reservoir engineering, encompassing numerical modeling, project management, and resource assessment. He has developed over 60 commercial models and led assessments for more than 30 geothermal fields globally. A passionate educator, Minh has taught geothermal simulation across the US, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines since 1992.

Matthieu Simon, CTO and co-founder of Celsius Energy, received the Dr. Jim Bose Heat Pump Award, which recognizes exceptional advancement in the deployment of low-temperature heat pump technology. The award is named for Dr. Jim Bose, a pioneer in geothermal heat pump research.

Matthieu Simon is leading technology and product development to scale shallow geothermal solutions for building decarbonization. With a background in nuclear physics and subsurface characterization, he applies digital innovation and oil and gas expertise to advance ground-source heat pump systems.

What we are saying:
“These awards celebrate the technical excellence and innovative drive of our people and the deep individual contributions they bring to the complex challenges we face,” said Irlan Amir, vice president, Renewables & Energy Efficiency, in congratulating Pham and Simon. “Minh and Matthieu exemplify how we are pushing energy technology forward and helping deliver a more sustainable energy future.”

The big picture: As global energy demand shifts, geothermal is crucial to decarbonization — offering clean, baseload power and efficient, low-carbon heating and cooling respectively.
