Map reservoir properties and hydrocarbon volume estimates

The Carnarvon basin is Australia’s most prolific hydrocarbon-bearing basin. The overlap of play types at three discrete stratigraphic levels requires 3D imaging to map and derive reservoir properties and hydrocarbon volume estimates. We have two new 3D broadband datasets that provide complete regional coverage over this highly prospective basin.

Exmouth Basin 3D multimeasurement survey

Our Exmouth 3D multimeasurement survey provides approximately 12,000 km2 of coverage in areas with significant potential for future acreage release and farm-in opportunities. The survey is fully broadband and has full-fold coverage on all survey edges. Due to the broadband nature of the data, we achieved significant reductions in residual multiple across the full record length.

The higher-resolution and improved frequency content of the data provides crisper imaging of shallow amplitude anomalies and complex stratigraphy, including carbonate sequences. Improved illumination and rich low-frequency content combine to provide enhanced imaging of deep basin structures, enabling detailed interpretation and analysis of both Triassic sequences and near vertical Jurassic and Triassic faulting.

North Carnarvon Basin 3D reprocessed survey

28,000 km2 of recently reprocessed 3D broadband data combining 8 surveys is now available, providing a single, continuous fully imaged seismic volume across the North Carnarvon Basin. The dataset is available through a partnership between TGS and Schlumberger and is being processed by Schlumberger using prestack depth migration.

The new depth image dataset provides a sharper image to interpret across the Northern Carnarvon Basin subsurface. It includes crisper imaging of the shallow section, including the Barrow Group, Gearle intervals, unconformities, and mass transport complexes. Additionally, improved event continuity at depth provides increased confidence in the interpretation of deeper structures.

The dataset is currently available for licensing with a full complement of products for AVO analysis.
