While drilling the 311-mm [12.24-in] interval in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, an APWD tool failed, making it crucial to manage downhole pressures to avoid potential losses. With the OptiWell™ well construction performance service already in use for the project, it was proposed to add PressPro RT software for enhanced equivalent circulating density (ECD) and hole cleaning management, enabling the operator to continue drilling without needing to trip out to replace the APWD tool.
In its first deployment of PressPro RT software in Eastern Canada, the operator eliminated the need to trip out and replace a failed APWD tool, saving more than 2 days of rig time. The service managed ECD for the remainder of the drilling section, which was completed to total depth without any hole cleaning issues. Additionally, the modeled data from PressPro RT software was accessible to the drilling team in real time.
