An operator drilling in the Gulf of Mexico needed a drilling plan to navigate around salt bodies. When drilling through or around salt bodies, it’s important to consider the heterogeneous environment and stresses that will be encountered. By incorporating a bit-on-seismic technology such as seismicVISION seismic-while-drilling service, Schlumberger is able to navigate under the salt body without penetrating it and to the target formation. This process requires an integrated workflow to bring the geology, geophysics, geomechanics, and drilling disciplines together for real-time drilling geomechanics.
