Live downhole reservoir testing reduces rig time by 25%

A customer had been performing drillstem tests (DSTs) with conventional packers and tools that are set by string weight, string movement, and hydrostatic pressure. SLB provided a portfolio of Symphony™ live downhole reservoir testing tools that are operated by acoustic wireless signals, eliminating the requirement of manipulating the DST string or applying hydrostatic pressure to operate those tools. The Symphony Isolate wireless high-integrity reservoir test isolation system enabled performing a dual-zone DST with a single run, reducing the rig time by 25% compared to two separate DST runs for each zone using conventional DST tools.

The customer sought to evaluate multiple reservoir zones within a single well. Because each zone required a separate DST run, multiple DSTs were needed for each well, increasing rig time and overall well cost, reducing rig efficiency, and increasing emissions per well.

The dual-zone DST string enabled isolation of two zones in a single run while providing the flexibility to switch flow between zones and perform pressure buildup using wirelessly operated Symphony testing tools. This solution eliminated the need for two separate DST runs, saving 25% of rig time, improving operational efficiency, and reducing emissions associated with additional rig time.
