The packers performed exceptionally well at low temperature, successfully completing API testing at 30 degF.
The 13 5/8-in, 10,000-psi variable-bore ram packers endured rigorous extreme temperature testing, including an 11-h hold at 300 degF. The packers also performed exceptionally well at low temperature, successfully completing API testing at 30 degF. Testing was conducted with ABS and DNV as independent third-party witnesses, using virtual monitoring in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.

Background
Growing customer demand drove development of a product that could withstand extreme heat and still meet API Spec 16A Fourth Edition PR2 criteria. Packer design required limiting rubber extrusion to fit in existing ram block cavity dimensions. Rigorous, extreme temperature testing needed to simulate conditions in the Permian Basin and the Middle East’s most challenging wellsites.
