Extend PDC bit durability with our rolling cutting element technology.
Harbour Energy was planning to drill a challenging 13½-in section in the Central North Sea. Previous attempts in the field had resulted in increased operating time and costs because of premature bit wear caused by abrasive lithology, high number of circulating hours, shock, vibration, and stick-slip conditions. Dissatisfied with these outcomes, Harbour Energy required a solution that would enable it to achieve its target in a single run and reduce rig time and costs.
Because of the exceptional wear resistance of the EnduroBlade 360 rolling diamond element bit, Harbour Energy achieved a competitive ROP while drilling through high-compressive-strength carbonates. This enabled reaching section TD in a single run, reducing overall drilling time. The DBOS drillbit optimization system was used to analyze compressive strength plots, identify potential damage-prone transitions, and optimize the drilling strategy. Using IDEAS, integrated dynamic design and analysis platform, a drillers’ roadmap was generated a drillers’ road map, providing a clear starting point for operating parameters and minimizing estimates. This innovative approach resulted in a 77-hour reduction in on-bottom drilling hours and an 8-day reduction in rig time compared with the previous well.
