Products with the “XD” designation are cloud-optimized, delivering the same robust technology as their on-premises counterparts. They’re enhanced by high-performance computing, machine learning, AI acceleration, and seamless integration with the Delfi platform and Lumi platform. For customers not on the cloud, desktop versions remain fully available and supported.

How do XD products improve workflow performance?
XD products are engineered for cloud‑scale performance, enabling geoscientists and engineers to run advanced subsurface workflows faster and more efficiently. By combining high‑performance computing (HPC), scalable machine learning models, and the Tela agentic-AI assistant, XD products accelerate tasks such as seismic interpretation, reservoir modeling, wellbore analysis, and multi‑scenario simulation. This results in significantly reduced cycle times, higher‑quality insights, and more confident decision‑making.
Are projects compatible between on-premises and XD products?
Yes! Project storage is the same, and projects are interchangeable between the two versions without any data/context loss.
Can I download XD products from the Software Download Center?
No. Only the on-premises software versions are available from the Software Download Center. XD products will be delivered through the Delfi platform application delivery service. XD products are available as a subscription and provisioned using Delfi platform cloud licensing. For further information on the available subscriptions for XD products please click here.
What’s the difference between SLB cloud infrastructure and customer cloud infrastructure for XD products?
SLB cloud infrastructure, referred to as the Delfi managed environment, is the recommended standard for XD products. It is fully managed by SLB, delivering a consistent, high‑performance user experience with minimal operational effort for customer IT teams.
Customer cloud infrastructure is an option for organizations with specific security, compliance, or data residency requirements. In this case, XD products can run in customer‑managed environments on validated cloud service providers Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Deployments on customer cloud require SLB validated configurations to ensure reliable performance, user experience, and effective support.
Will the ML/AI solutions for Petrel software and Techlog software only be available in the XD versions?
No. On-prem versions will still benefit from AI and ML workflow acceleration features. Some of the AI and ML solutions that require cloud services will only be available in the XD version of the products.
Will Petrel XD software and Techlog XD software be the only XD products?
Other applications will follow in 2026. We will announce these solutions as they are made available.
Will cloud applications like FDPlan™ agile field development planning solution and DrillPlan™ coherent well planning and engineering solutions also have an XD extension?
No. These applications are already native to the cloud environment by default, and connect to the Lumi platform and Delfi platform services, and the OSDU®™ Data Platform.
