OLGA

Olga 2025.1 introduces the innovative Olga new solver (CCS), developed through the Olga CO2 REACH joint industry project (JIP) to improve CO2 handling capabilities. This solver provides robust and accurate simulations of CO2 transport and injection, essential for the effective design and operation of CCS systems. It enables reliable and precise multiphase modeling with strong vaporization and condensation, optimizing capital and operational costs for CCS transport systems.

Key improvements in the new solver include increased implicitness between pressure and energy, and a reformulated flash calculation for enhanced numerical stability.

The solver operates in two stages: First updating velocities, pressure, and energy, followed by masses in each time step. By solving energy and pressure simultaneously, the pressure computation is constrained by the energy equation, boosting the solver’s stability. It is compatible only with PH-flash and PH-tables.

The development of the Olga new solver (CCS) was funded by the CLIMIT program (climit.no) under grant no. 621254 and industry partners within the Olga CO2 REACH JIP.
