Mixed-metal-oxides-based adsorbents to remove harmful H2S from liquid and dry and water-saturated gas streams.
Based on its experience with the product’s effectiveness, an EPC contractor chose SELECT S hydrogen sulfide removal adsorbent to purify a contaminated CO2 waste stream at a plant in Singapore. The H2S removal system, comprising two vessels with adsorbent beds and a downstream polishing vessel, was manufactured in neighboring Malaysia, based on a system design provided by SLB.
But when the vessels were ready to ship, the final inspection revealed a serious flaw—all three vessels were missing the support system for the fixed bed that would hold the adsorbent. Correcting the omission and retrofitting the supports locally, followed by postweld heat treatment and QA tests, would result in unacceptable delays.
SLB stepped up to help. As a leading provider of purification technology solutions, it has the capability to deliver a fully engineered technical solution comprising system design, media supply, detailed engineering, fabrication package, and equipment supply. Working in partnership with a regional fabricator in Singapore, SLB designed a bed support system that could pass through the vessel manways and be erected inside the vessels on site.
This innovative solution meant that the vessels could be shipped from Malaysia to Singapore while the bed support systems were being manufactured, avoiding any impact on the project schedule. Subsequently, the support systems were installed uneventfully, and commissioning was completed without any delay.
