The CoilScan system allowed the string to be run for an additional 86,942 ft [26,500 m] with the total number of running meters at the time of retirement at 369,094 ft [112,500 m]. The measurements acquired by the CoilScan system provided confidence in CT integrity and allowed necessary precautions to be taken while in the ballooned section, resulting in three additional runs to complete the campaign.

Background
A CT string used for high-pressure milling operations (8,847 psi [61 MPa]) with over  282,152 ft [86,000 m] of downward running footage had a region of OD growth (ballooning) at approximately 9,842–11,482 ft [3,000–3,500 m]. The CT string was midcampaign with limited availability of a replacement. The CoilScan* real-time CT pipe inspection system was deployed to capture real-time magnetic flux leakage measurements of the string. Ballooning was measured to be within acceptable limits of 3.5% and no additional sections contained severe defects or ovality.
