Xtreme Coil Services Saves Delaware Basin Operator 12 Hours in Milling Job - Efficiency during milling reduces time by more than 4 minutes per plug
Xtreme Coil Services designed the milling operation to take advantage of the high pump rates and high annular flow rates enabled by 2 5/8-in coiled tubing, making it easier to remove the debris generated from milling operations. X-Mill software was used to optimize the milling rates in real time using pressure, rate, and weight sensors. This prevented motor stalls caused by too much WOB. The job was completed in a single trip with 36.5 hours spent in the well and an average of 7.6 min spent per plug. There were no short trips or BHA trips. The average time savings per plug was 4.4 minutes, which when coupled with absence of short trips that generally accompany a job of this size, translates to an overall 12.2-hour time savings.

Background

An operator in the Delaware Basin asked Xtreme Coil Services, a Schlumberger company, for a solution that would enable milling 44 composite frac plugs quickly and efficiently. The operator wanted to minimize the time it would take to mill out each plug, which a third-party provider completed in an average of about 12 minutes per plug with as many as three short trips for a job of this size.
