Schlumberger strives to protect the health of its employees and to manage their health risks in the workplace. The company has various health awareness programs and one of the key initiatives is to raise awareness of heart disease among employees and their families.

Health data from more than 190 countries compiled by the American Heart Association (AHA) shows that heart disease is the leading cause of fatalities worldwide with 17.9 million deaths in 2015, a number that is expected to grow to more than 23.6 million by 2030.

This year Schlumberger has launched a joint initiative with AHA that is centered around encouraging employees, their families and communities to actively participate in overall heart wellness.

The awareness campaign incorporates the AHA's cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) kiosk, an interactive learning tool that instructs about hands-only CPR. The tool gives feedback about the rate and depth of compressions as well as proper hand placement—crucial factors that influence the effectiveness of CPR.

The campaign kicks off at the company's Sugar Land campus and it will, over time, be positioned in 18 of the other Schlumberger Houston locations. The goal is to maximize awareness of employees in the area over the next 18 months. In addition, company facilities will be periodically opened to the local communities for access to the CPR kiosk, including for the company's HSE for Youth program that promotes health and safety to the younger generation.

The campaign also shares the AHA's guidance on the importance of checking and maintaining blood pressure and making lifestyle changes to promote a healthy heart. As part of this wellness program, the company is also encouraging employees, their families, and teams to become more physically active. The initiative provides tips to keep track of activity levels and includes ideas for employees to get their families and local communities involved.

Schlumberger has a long-standing commitment to promoting heart health among employees. Last year, the company rolled out a heart disease awareness program for employees worldwide in 10 languages called "Getting Heart Healthy" which looks at heart attack prevention and what to do if a heart attack is suspected.
