First COLOSSUS CMT Liner Hanger System Deployment in Udhailiyah Gas Well

The COLOSSUS CMT premium liner hanger system was deployed with zero NPT and conveyed the off-bottom cementing tool to the target depth. The premium system is designed for vertical to highly deviated boreholes and applications where the liner hanger must withstand high loads. The V0-qualified liner top packer is designed for gas wells and can withstand differential pressures up to 10,000 psi [69 MPa]. Both cementing and the subsequent stimulation operations were performed successfully.

Background

For the openhole completion in a gas well, Saudi Aramco had planned to enhance well integrity via an off-bottom cement job for the liner before conducting a multistage fracturing operation. The company was looking for a suitable alternative to the sole liner hanger supplier it had been using.

The quality of cementing was critical as gas can exploit small imperfections in cement, resulting in leaks and compromising well integrity. The liner top packer also had to be qualified for gas.
