Contingency plans for relief wells have become a critical piece of the drilling plans provided to regulatory agencies to get a drilling permit. Using the Petrel E&P software platform and plug-ins such as the OLGA dynamic multiphase flow simulator, we are able to plan target and relief wells—and determine the predicted effectiveness of the relief well.
