DFMs are specialized AI models trained on large amounts of domain-specific data (e.g., log foundation model, seismic foundation model). These models can run complex downstream domain tasks and are likened to domain experts. They often use an existing model as a base and then extend it by training on specific domain datasets through a process called “fine-tuning.”
