The Hydra-Jar AP jar’s unique metering process compensates for decreases in detent cylinder oil viscosity to sustain the jar’s hitting force, even after repeated firings.

Background
While drilling the 12 1/4-in hole section, a jar was added to the BHA should the drillstring become stuck. Schlumberger recommended a Hydra-Jar AP double-acting hydraulic drilling jar, which is balanced to hydrostatic pressure through ports open to the wellbore, ensuring consistent hitting performance regardless of downhole pressure changes.
