Background
When drilling out the complementary 7-in casing section in a well offshore Mexico, the operator wanted to add a drilling jar to the BHA should the drillstring become stuck. Schlumberger recommended a Hydra-Jar AP double-acting hydraulic drilling jar, which is balanced to hydrostatic pressure through ports open to the wellbore, ensuring consistent hitting performance regardless of downhole pressure changes.

Hydra-Jar AP Jar Frees Packed-Off Drillstring, Offshore Mexico

The jar freed a drillstring stuck during drillout without losing force after 235 firings, avoiding fishing operations and saving rig time

The Hydra-Jar AP jar's unique metering process compensates for decreases in detent cylinder oil viscosity to sustain the jar's hitting force, even after repeated firings.
