Background

In the fast-paced environment of the Eagle Ford Shale play, an operator needed to mitigate the cost of lost fluid due to high mud on cuttings (MOC) and the disposal of oil-wet cuttings. They chose the SCREEN PULSE fluid and cuttings separator to increase cuttings dryness. The SCREEN PULSE separator was installed on MONGOOSE PRO dynamic dual-motion shale shakers.

In combination with DURAFLO screens, the SCREEN PULSE separator was able to reduce MOC by an average of 48% on drying shakers and return on average 225 bbl of mud per well to the active system, therefore reducing the cost of lost mud and cuttings disposal. By using the SCREEN PULSE separator, the operator saved an estimated USD 38,000 per well, on average, just in lost mud savings. The separator gave the operator a net savings of USD 205,000 for the entire operation, including savings over cuttings disposal costs.
