The Mark III™ high-performance BOP control system reduces nonproductive time (NPT) events and improves customer operations by enabling data-driven decisions, early-response anomaly detection, and improved subject matter expert response time. By providing input for additional sensors and increasing sensor frequency, the system provides higher-fidelity data and time-based trend analysis for better insight into operations. The upgraded high-performance (HP) human machine interface (HMI) provides a more complete picture of operations, enabling better overall decision making.

The Mark III HP system replaces previous-generation technology and limited data-transmission capacity of BOP control systems, enabling faster data transmission and higher-resolution data analysis.

What equipment needs to be converted on the BOP control system?

The following subassemblies are required for the conversion to support surface-to-subsea telemetry and associated test equipment: yellow subsea electronics module (SEM), yellow RCB, blue SEM, blue RCB, communications and power distribution panel (CPDP) A, CPDP B, event logger, portable electronic test unit (PETU), and Microsoft® Windows® 10 HMIs.

Can customers purchase one SEM, RCB, or CPDP panel with Mark III HP system, and will it work with existing Mark III systems?

No. Customers are required to convert the following subassemblies: yellow SEM, yellow RCB, blue SEM, blue RCB, CPDP A, CPDP B, event logger, PETU, and Windows 10 HMIs.

Can customers update the operating system on existing Windows XP and Windows 7 computers?

No. Current hardware platforms do not have the memory nor drivers necessary to run Windows 10. Contact your SLB representative for Engineering Bulletin (EB) 988 D.

What information do customers need to provide to get a quote?

SLB representatives need the top-level part number associated with the BOP control system and the name of the control panel HMI that needs to be replaced. See the example below:

Top-level part number: 2020700-XX
Name of the control panel HMI: DCP

Do customers have to change the test system?

Yes. The test system needs to be converted based on the new design with replacement PLCs and modem. SLB representatives will work with SLB engineering to generate a quote.

Is the Mark III HP system API Spec 16D 3rd edition compliant?

The Mark III HP system can be compliant to API Spec 16D 3rd edition. SLB representatives will work with SLB engineering to generate a quote.
